The Covenants ensemble researched layers of Northwood and Baltimore history to create a series of short informational films, referred to in the performance as “factoids.” These pieces introduced and defined key terms and histories — including blockbusting, Northwood Plaza, and racial covenants — that shaped both the neighborhood and the larger city.

Throughout Covenants, A Theatrical Collage about Northwood, the factoids served as a historical and political framing device. They helped audiences understand the forces behind the stories unfolding onstage, connecting Baltimore’s past to its present. In doing so, they offered a kind of political education often missing from public memory: a clearer view of the policies, practices, and decisions that shaped where people could live, gather, shop, and belong.
